  • Tight finish to historic mixed foursomes open event

There was a close finish to our Broom Memorial Trophy with the top three teams separated by just half a shot.

Richard Irwin and Kelly-Ann Thring emerged victorious in the historic mixed forursomes event which has been running since 1954.

The pair, who are members at Chesterfield Golf Club, scored a nett one-under-par 70.

Heaton Hall members Simon Brown and Jane Brown finished second with a score of 70.5, edging out Alan and Gina Taylor of Chesterfield on countback.

Ian Gretton of Holinwell and partner Sheila Gretton of Notts Ladies won the scratch prize with a score of 80.

Congratulations to all our winners, full details of which can be seen here.

  • Improved practice facilities set to open

Our improved practice ground facilities will open for use from Monday.

Course Manager Joe Walsh and his greens team have done a fabulous job of developing the area using a £10,000 COVID-19 Support Fund grant we received from the R&A.

The development includes an extension at the practice area’s southern edge, levelling of ground, improvement to drainage, and installation of irrigation. Practice mats will be added for year-round usage.

Designated hitting areas will be roped off so that members can practice safely in an ordered manner.

We were delighted to receive the maximum funding award. Bids totalling £7.2m were submitted with a pot of just £2.55m to be shared.

In awarding the money, the R&A were impressed with the work our club continues to do to attract and maintain members – particularly in our junior and ladies’ sections.

  • Hold up Rory, Dustin and co – the Chesterfield Golf Club stars are playing first!

Two of our members will tee it up at Royal St George’s just days before the course stages the Open Championship after qualifying to represent England in an international competition.

Bradley Rhodes and Matthew Elks finished in the top two places when we staged a competition in April as part of the R&A’s 9 Hole Challenge.

Their impressive stableford scores of 24 and 23 points bettered those of competitors from scores of other golf clubs across the country and they will now team up to represent England on Saturday – five days before the Open starts on the same course.

Bradley, who has a handicap index of 19.0, and Matthew, who has a handicap index of 13.5, will play holes one, two, nine, 10, 11, 12, 16, 17 and 18 in a competition which includes 42 golfers from six countries.

They’ll be proudly sporting Chesterfield Golf Club shirts when they take to the tee.
